In 2022 I received an old stethoscope from my father. I took it apart and attached the head to the head of a small microphone. This gives one the possibility to record a live heartbeat and also to project it out in a room with an audience.
When humans are exposed to heartbeat, their own rhythm automatically syncs with the hearable one. The work is a research in what happen when we put an exchange of sound, that usually is given in a intimate setting, into a big and not so intimate space. When we lay next to a person and listen to their heartrhythm, your own rhythm syncs with it. That is why you sync your breathing with your lover’s.
This research has been shown shown in different formats and contexts, now latest in 2025 in Paris at Loveletter Bagnolet as an opening performance for Pauli Bertholon’s solo show Deviant Dwelling, curated by Salomé Fau.
CONTEXT 2025,
Context is an invitation into the most intimate chambre of a person, the space you usually do not share. The space of your inner body and your room where you lay and scroll you phone, listening to your own favorite songs. The room you don’t feel the need to share.
Performance accompanied by two songs from God Help The Girl official soundtrack, and a vacuum cleaner.
Poem was scrolled though on a phone in the rhythm of music playing and the heartbeat of the artist.
